Gary Newman joined Bruce Power in 2004 as the Department Manager of Equipment Life Cycle Engineering. He was appointed to his current position of Chief Engineer & Senior Vice President of Engineering in June of 2008. Gary carries the responsibility for all Engineering activity at Bruce Power and holds the Design Authority for the Bruce Power site. Gary is an active participant in numerous Boards and holds Director positions on the Board of Directors for the CANDU Owners Group (COG) (Chairman), the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE) (Vice-Chairman), as well as the Advanced Nuclear Research Centre ((ANRC) Strathclyde)). Prior to joining Bruce Power, Gary was employed by AMEC - Nuclear Safety Solutions Ltd., as the Director, Structural Integrity Division. He was also the Senior Department Manager of Fuel, Fuel Channels & Reactor Components at Ontario Power Generation, and originally joined Ontario Hydro in 1990, where he was the Senior Department Manager, Fuel Channels.
