Special Sessions

As with past SMiRT conferences, several special sessions will be held. Special sessions will have the same duration as regular technical sessions, likely 90-100 minutes. Special sessions may have three formats. These include:

1.       A topic or theme of interest that spans multiple SMiRT divisions, with multiple speakers. One will be a session devoted to presentations by Shibata early career award finalists.

2.       Panel discussions (composed of 3-5 individuals) on a specific topic.

3.       Tutorials or workshops on a specific topic.

For format 1, speakers in the sessions will be expected to contribute either a high-quality abstract for publishing in the conference program or make available in advance their presentation for inclusion in the electronic version of program. For format 2 and 3, abstracts are not expected, however session organizers may elect to write a report summarizing the session, potentially for posting on the IASMiRT website after the conference. The total number of special sessions will be in the range of 10-15. This number may be limited by available meeting rooms and other schedule considerations. No more than 4-5 of these are likely to be panel discussions or tutorials/workshops. The majority will be themed, cross-cutting sessions. If more proposals are received than the conference schedule can accommodate, then the special session committee will decide which proposals to accept.

Session proposals must be submitted on the form below. Proposals should be submitted to Dr. Stephen McDuffie and Prof. Daman Panesar at the email addresses on the bottom of the form.

Proposals must be received by 14 March 2025. Notifications of session approvals will be provided by 1 April 2025.

Please contact Stephen McDuffie with any questions.
