Dr. Aziz is a designated Civil/Structural Specialist Experienced in Civil Structural Design, Analysis and Construction, Seismic Design, Finite Element Analysis, Seismic PSA, Seismic Qualification and Testing, Walkdowns, Condition Assessment of Structures, Codes and Standards, Design Requirements, Technical Specifications, Stress Analysis, Probabilistic Risk Assessment, vibration analysis and training. He has extensive experience in containment engineering design and analyses and power plant buildings renovation, modifications and life extensions. Dr. Aziz has more than 50 years experience in the Civil Design and Construction of Nuclear Power Plants and major civil structures including dams, bridges and high-rise buildings. Dr. Aziz served as AECL’s Principal Civil Engineer for 32 years where he was responsible for the civil structural and seismic design of different CANDU stations. Prior to joining AECL Dr. Aziz held the positions of Staff Engineer, Engineering Specialist and Department Head with Acres Consulting, Toronto. He also held the position of Lead Engineer with Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation, Boston, Massachusetts where he was responsible for the civil work for several Nuclear Power Plants in the U.S.A. Dr. Aziz is the author and coauthor of more than 100 publications and papers in refereed journals and symposia, numerous reports and regulatory submissions. He serviced as Professor (Adjunct - tenured) at McMaster University for 30 years where he taught several graduate courses on structural dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. He also supervised many Ph.D. and M.Sc. students over his 30 years as a Adjunct Professor. Dr. Aziz is a registered professional engineer in Ontario and Massachusetts, U.S.A. He has completed successfully EPRI SQUG training on screening and seismic risk evaluation.
